The patina of time is reflected in the soft and subdued beauty of French Grey. The color is reminiscent of French homes with centuries having passed under ever-present aging grey walls. When paired with soft understated colors such as pale blue or sage green, French grey captures the romance of its homeland and brings it home to us by way of inspired decorative finishes.

This kitchen was designed for a lovely couple inspired by the colors green, grey and blue. Especially that elusive French Grey! The concept incorporated an understated elegance. We decided to work with contrasting multiple colors and materials to give a bit of variety to the kitchen. We started with the idea of painting the outer-cabinets that beautiful French Grey and then putting a bit of contrast in the color of island.

In the butler’s pantry, we played on that idea contrast and stained the cabinets this rich walnut color instead of painting the cabinets. Here we used a different counter that tied back into the colors of the kitchen. This is one of my most favorite materials I’ve ever used! In the back splash, we decided to use a very beautiful handmade crackled ceramic tile. Since we had a smaller space to work with, we were able to splurge on some more expensive, one-of-a-kind materials. I love to add those luxuriously rich elements in small touches. All together, we varied the counter tops, the backsplash material and the colors on the cabinets to create a very unique, but elegant design inspired by that favorite French Grey.
